From Where we Stand invaded Lubbock, for the FMX Birthday Bash, April 20, 2012.
The Roaming Rocker
Chicks hit the Road to Lubbock to attend the FMX Birthday Bash and the X9 Fest
(X9 fest is part of the Mass Chaos Tour with Stained and GodSmack) back to back.
We had gotten our VIP GodSmack tickets months
earlier and only found out about the FMX Birthday Bash at the last moment,
considering we don’t live there, we said WTH we will be there anyhow… Lets Go!
Friday we hit the road a little behind schedule due to
wardrobe malfunctions and you guessed it navigational errors…shhhh we got there…
The line up for the FMX Birthday Bash was phenomenal for
both stages. Ampitheater Stage: Korn, Chevelle, Lacuna
Coil, Cavo, Dead Sara and on The Pavilion Stage: DJ’s Datsik, Sluggo &
J.Devil, New Medicine, Janus, Veer Union.
But with two stages,
choices had to be made. So we headed for
the main stage, since we had recently seen New Medicine (Awesomeness) in
Abilene.
Lacuna Coil
We made it in time to
see Lacuna Coil. The crowd was not quite packed yet so working our way in the
pockets of people, we landed in the second row center stage.
Oh man you could feel
the rush move through your body.. The beautiful Cristina Scabbia belted out
every song with her beautiful voice revealing heart and soul. Andrea Ferro worked that stage and crowd also
gave it all and put on a show.. All despite the high heat. Cristiano
"Criz" Mozzati was one with the drums and we could feel every beat.
Cristian “Pizza” Migliore appeared lost in his beautiful guitar as did Marco
"Maus" Biazzi. Who could ask for more? Well, we have two suggestions
for this totally rockin group… Marco Coti Zelati wake up over there on the
bass, you add so much but we want to see you enjoy it too!!! Whomever was on your sound board needs to
work on the balance…Cristina was many times drowned out as if at times her
microphone was not working (except we were so close we could hear a bit)… No
matter we can not wait to see you again maybe in a smaller venue..
Chevelle
Chevelle, well what can one say about Chevelle… You guys
Rock and appear to love the show. As you can tell us gals like to see you
loving what you’re doing as well, and it shows.
Microphone issues still plagued the performance, however your live
version of Red was Great and did not get lost… and Oh my stars Hats off to the Bull. Thank you guys for including the
audience many of us got lost in the music right along with you.
Korn
With Korn’s lights
began lighting up the night for around 5 minutes the excitement gathered. The absolutely
gorgeous silver mic stand arrived… the crowd could not wait and more shoving
began.. heck they were crowd surfing without a band.
If you have never seen Korn live, use a sharpie and put it
on your list of things to do ASAP. Jonathan, Field, Munky and Ray do not leave
anything to be desired. You can feel the
energy of every note played and sung. Ray was busting drum sticks everyplace.
These guys really appear to be playing to us in the crowd and blowing our hair
back, song after song. No one cared they were being smashed, or the air was stifling
up front in the crowd. We just kept rocking, absorbing every moment of the
talent Korn provided. In one word
ELECTRIC…
Afterword, we
chatted with Koop at the New Medicine Merch booth. We had spent some time with
them in Abilene. He informed us of the Acoustic set the next day and got us all
the info. Oh and we would be there for sure!
Even though it was
not planned the KMX Birthday Bash was well worth it..
